observing light in a mockup of a little city

During the years as a graduate student at Production Engineering at COPPE-UFRJ, I got to know the literacy project for Youth and Adults in this institution. This is an initiative that promotes literacy to university workers that don’t know how to write and read. I met the coordinator and creator of this project, Fatima Bacelar, who gave me the opportunity to teach art classes for those students.

I had the chance to offer origami classes, painting and in 2014, I helped in developing of a mockup entitled “The community we want”. For a few weeks, the students gathered in a room to work with colored paper, magazines, boxes and other materials to build an ideal community, according to the them.

It was a very interesting process, where students could see that they had the potential to create different things and to propose new solutions. It was all about imagination. The mockup was presented at their graduation day and it was a joy to see people’s satisfaction.
