Children's illustration time-lapse. Japanese Alice in Wonderland

Posted by Bia Watanabe | 3 de November de 2016 | Creating!, Video, Watercolor

Time-lapse on my process of coloring this drawing I made with an oriental influence on the theme of Alice in Wonderland! Idea that occurred after @ gut_mafia.44 got me thinking and presenting challenges for me. =)

What to paint?

In the foreground a purple scene with some plants, tree and a dog. Then the background with cheerful colors in a scenario based on a Japanese house, a Japanese girl with trees and stylized plants (Disney reference).

Why did you paint the foreground to the background ?

Well, actually, it was more correct to start from the background to the front … but I wanted to see the purple tree first. So it’s not recommend what I did, but I felt much happier to go painting like this. But not all drawings and painting will allow you to do that…

Which watercolor?

I used watercolor brand Winsor & Newton (student version) and Schminke (professional version). In general, I use summer or fall colors! I recommend working with a limited color palette and to have a lot of patience for the layers.

Which paper?

I used a watercolor Canson paper… no, not Montvall, it was one with a clear blue cover that says like “Aquarelle”. This paper served well, although it needed a strong tape around it when absorbing the water.
